I have been considering going on a short mission trip for some time now. I really feel like it would be so fulfilling to me personally as well as spiritually. We get so caught up in this world and the amenities of life. We take so much for granted....air conditioning, diet coke, ice, a nice clean bed, good quality medical care, a nice church to worship in whenever we feel like going to church. I want to serve - even for just a few days - in a place that is underserved. I think it would be such a blessing. I have been invited to go to Nicaragua to the MedFest sponsored by Way of the Cross Ministiries.
It is in January 2014, and there is a cost involved, but I am willing to pay for a vacation, why not be willing to give back to God what is already His in order to serve others.
Our friends, the Damron's and Edmiston's are involved in this ministry. Giles has gone with a dental team for years and years. Cliff has gone the last few years with the construction team. Of course Giles said there would always be a place for me in the medical tents. They are taking dentists, pharmacists, surgeons, an OB-GYN, and others. He said I could accept a job that was as "gross" or as "not gross" as I wanted.....I am leaning towards "not gross"...Ha!!! He even said that if I did not want to do something medical that was cool too, there are many children there and so many activities that you can do with the kids, really just loving on them.
I had to Google where Nicaragua even was at......geography was never really my strong suit. So now I know, I have heard of all of those places....Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. Now I know where it is located.
I have until October the 1st to make a decision and get my deposit in. If you think about it, pray for me that I have be at peace with whatever decision that I make and that if I do feel led to go, that some support will come to help with the expenses involved with traveling there.
My whole life I have been taught about the Great Commission of Jesus, I know that we can do that right here in our back yard, and we should, but THIS is what I have always thought of when I think about fulfilling the Great Commission........GO and TELL.
