"I Call Him Lord"

Special Music for tomorrow......love the harmony.

Thinking about Momma

As I am putting up the Christmas Tree, I am reminded on my sweet Momma.  She loved Christmas.  She loved buying gifts for everyone.  She loved to decorate the whole house....even the bathroom, she loved to cook and have parties at her house.
This was Momma with our kids on the day we decorated her last Christmas tree.  She was so happy to have the kids there.  We ordered pizza like we always did.  We were able to reminisce about all of our favorite ornaments, and of course, she bossed us around about where to put which one, ha!
Momma's tree was always filled with homemade ornaments and snowflakes and icicles that Granny had made.  But this year she let Annabeth hang a green paper snowflake that she had made on the tree.  She joked that she was just an old lady trying to get into heaven.
Momma's friend Cynthia came from Ohio to stay with momma for a week and help take care of her.  She wrapped momma's Christmas presents.  Momma had given Dwayne a list and he was the secret shopper.  She even picked our special gifts and had him buy them for each of us, knowing that it was her last Christmas with us.  She made him promise that if it looked like she would not make it to December 25th, that we were to open our special gifts early so she could see us open them.  We knew that her time was drawing near, so on December 20th, 2009 we got the family together and had Christmas.  Complete with Annabeth playing the Nutcracker on the recorder.  Austin had made Momma a Mrs. Pots and Chip from Beauty and the beast.  It was a sweet time.  We opened our special gifts.
This was Annabeth's special gift.  She gave all of us girls an open heart angel necklace, so we could be reminded that she was always in our hearts.

She had a money clip engraved for Dwayne that said "You married my daughter and became my son".

She had a pocket watch engraved for Austin that says "Learn from yesterday, Live for today, Hope for tomorrow.
Little did we know, within hours of opening our special gifts, she would draw her last breath.

This is our last picture together, the night of our special Christmas.  She was gone within hours of this being taken.  I cannot describe the pain that I felt.  Not even the loss of my baby boy could compare to this loss.  Maybe because I only knew Nathan for a short time, but momma was also my friend.  I talked to her every day on the phone.  She made me laugh, she ticked me off (whose mom doesn't), we shared good times and bad together.  I can honestly say that as time has gone on, it has gotten some easier, but then there are days that I really miss her and just want to see her face and hear her voice.  I love her with all of my heart.....still.

While I was looking at pictures for this little blog, I do find myself looking for pictures of her laughing and smiling more, not looking quite so much at pictures of her during her last days when you could see the life slipping away from her.  One thing about Barbara Ann Trammel Thorne, she loved to laugh.  Momma, I know that is where I get my laugh from.  I love you more than words can express.  Missing you this Christmas.

Masterpiece of Mercy

We went to see the Booth Brothers at Germantown Baptist Church.  This was the best song of the night.  I loved the message.

You see, I have had issues with my weight for as long as I can remember.  I have very low self esteem, I am very self conscious.  I make fun of my own weight all of the time.  I am very insecure.

Then I heard this song.  I was reminded of Picaso and Rembrandt.....famous artists from the past.  They made beautiful works of art.  Imagine going to the Smithsonian Institute to an art exhibit there to see some long lost treasure of one of these artists.  The museum workers unveil the long lost piece to the oooh's and aaaah's of the people gathered there.

Do they say "Wow, look at that frame"......no, they are looking at the beauty that is held within the frame.  It is the same with my own self.  If people really love me and care about me, they will see my heart, not this old body.

I am a Masterpiece of Mercy, created by my Heavenly Father.

Take a minute to listen to the words of this song.  It is really beautiful.

"Masterpiece of Mercy" lyrics

He knew what I was when He made me
He saw the sinner I’d become
Yet He knew He had grace that could save me
His latest work of art had just begun

He started with an old dirty canvas
My sin had left me tattered, bent, and marred
Then this artist turned His light upon my sadness
And began to wash away the blackest part

When all the stains were gone He started painting
With colors that I’d never seen before
Then with joy He was ready to display me
To show the world what the Cross was for

Chorus:
A masterpiece of mercy; a miracle of grace
When the master sees one hurting
And wipes the pain away
The canvas of the artist
Becomes a holy place
For a masterpiece of mercy; a miracle of grace

Now I’m getting ready for Heaven
Every day just makes me want to go
But the artist hasn’t stopped; He’s still painting
And when He’s finished, He will take me Home

Chorus:
A masterpiece of mercy; a miracle of grace
When the master sees one hurting
And wipes the pain away
The canvas of the artist
Becomes a holy place
For a masterpiece of mercy; a miracle of grace

The canvas of the artist
Becomes a holy place
For a masterpiece of mercy; a miracle of grace

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace

I went to a Christmas ladies tea at Faith Baptist Church with some sweet friends.  The tables were all decorated so beautifully to give us different ideas about how to decorate for Christmas.  They were simple to elegant.  I loved it.  I would love to have a beautiful house with lovely decorations, but who am I kidding, I will use the same stuff that I have used for 25 years for sentimental reasons.  I  NEED that glittery toilet paper roll on my tree.

The food was yummy, we had cute guys serving us in red bow ties, so sweet.  The cake was good.....why does a 5 layer cake taste so much better than a 2 layer cake? My friend, Chris, and some ladies did a HILARIOUS skit about friendship and forgiveness with the Hair Roller Ladies.  Good stuff, reminded me of the Mama's Family sketches.

Then Karin Conlee, pastor's wife of High Point Church (hey, I bet they are kin to "Dwayne an 'em") spoke.  She used the verse from Isaiah 9:6 ".....and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace".  I have seen all of those sayings on banners in churches all across the land, but tonight I really thought about what the names really mean.

1. Wonderful Counselor - isn't it great that when we have problems or just need a friend to talk to that he is always there, we just have to call on his name, he will never leave us nor forsake us.
2. Mighty God - he is strong and mighty, he can do anything if it is his will.  We just need to call on Mighty God and believe that he is able.
3. Everlasting Father - I am a Daddy's Girl.  Now that momma is gone, sometimes I think about the pain that losing her caused and I just dread that day that I lose my daddy.  It seems like he can do anything, he can fix anything, he knows all of the answers.  How much more so can God do for us?  He is our everlasting father.
4.  Prince of Peace - how many moms out there just want peace in the house, in the marriage, in the workplace.  And how many of us always dreamed of being a disney princess?  He is the prince of peace.  We are a child of the king, therefore I am a princess.

We were encouraged to remind our families of these simple truths this Christmas season.  We get so lost in the buying of gifts, going to parties, making sure our home is perfect, when really the greatest gift ever given was given to us long ago in the form of an innocent child.  He came to save us and give us eternal life. Me.....He came to save ME....He knows MY name.....wow!

Christmas was never about the gifts.
